Kitchen Appliance Cleaning and Maintenance Tips for Newbies

When you move into a new home, you have a lot of things to contend with. The plumbing may need some work and your appliances may need a tune up. Over time, your appliances could also need some cleaning. These are just the requirements bestowed upon you as a homeowner. Regular maintenance will ensure that your home stays in good condition. Plus, maintaining and cleaning your appliances will ensure that they stay working for the long haul. Your kitchen appliances will be essential tools, especially if you are an avid cook. Here are some kitchen appliance cleaning and maintenance tips for newbies.

  1. Make sure that you empty your garbage disposal. It is critical that you empty your garbage disposal every few weeks or so. If you don’t, it will start to become clogged and it will make it difficult to properly dispose of foodstuffs. You can usually clean out your garbage disposal by turning it off completely and then emptying out the basin.
  2. Make sure that you inspect your dishwasher. It is also important to inspect your dishwasher. You want to make sure that your dishwasher’s jet arms are spinning and you want to make sure nothing seems broken. If your dishwasher smells a little like mildew, you may want to run the dry setting – just to disinfect and remove any mold or mildew that may be growing inside. If your dishwasher has visible signs of mold, you may want to scrub the mold off and then run the dishwasher with no dishes inside.
  3. Make sure to scrub and clean your microwave. It is also critical that you scrub the inside of your microwave. After a while, your microwave can look a little worse for wear – especially if you use it to cook things like pizza or to warm up leftovers. Usually, you can use a light cleaner mixed with some soap and water to properly disinfect the inside of your microwave. You can then turn on your microwave to dry and disinfect some more. It may be smart to clean your microwave on a weekly basis.
  4. Make sure to run water through your coffee maker. Another appliance that you probably use on a regular basis is your coffee machine. There is also a good chance that your coffee has been tasting a little strange lately. This could be because your coffee machine needs to be cleaned out. Cleaning a coffee machine is easy – some even have a self-cleaning setting. All you need to do is run hot water through the machine a few times. After two or three turns, your coffee machine will be back in tiptop shape.
  5. Make sure that you clean your stovetop. It is also imperative that you clean your stovetop. If you cook regularly, your stovetop may be looking a little messy or greasy. Fortunately, you can use a simple degreaser to properly clean your stovetop. It may also be wise to call 1-877-Appliance to have your oven serviced – you just never know if you need to have something tuned up or fixed.
